Daniel Jenkins
Photographer, film-maker, maker of documentaries and non-mainstream music videos
Born in the U.S.A., Daniel has been a permanent resident in Australia since 1978. Training at the University of Georgia, U.S.A., in early years he furthered his studies in Italy and worked as a photographer in East Germany. A long career in teaching and lecturing at major institutions, including the University of Melbourne, and Victorian College of the Arts, has been combined with a very active creative life.
From 1998 - 2000 he was Lecturer in Charge of Multi-Media for the Australian Academy of Design, Melbourne. A growing conviction that he must forge new directions then saw him set up his own studio in Metung, rural Victoria. From this time he has produced documentaries for such groups as Lake Tyers Aboriginal Trust, Jouissance, Melbourne Festival, Adelaide Festival Classical Music Series and has initiated and completed work in local settings. These include a series on local histories of migrant farmers, and a project for Arts Network East Gippsland, "Beyond the Princes Highway", video stories of remote East Gippsland Communities. Recent short films include "Mixed Bag", "High Tea" and "Making Pizza".
